Tamil Nadu medical colleges added 950 MBBS seats for the 2026-27 academic year. Three government colleges increased their intake, and one new private college opened. However, 800 seats were lost as colleges gained deemed university status. These seats will now be managed by the central medical counselling committee. The net effect still feels like a squeeze for the state.
