Where to Eat: Summer Escapes

Where to Eat: Summer Escapes

It’s just about time to get away from it all

Summer’s stifling heat will be closing in soon. It’ll bear down on gridlocked commuters, clog swampy apartments over the feeble complaints of window A/C units, and blanket city streets in a claustrophobic haze. You might be able to hide out for an hour or two in public pools or frigid movie theaters. But for real relief — complete with a perfect summertime meal — you’ll have to head out of town entirely.

Roll down the windows as you cruise Vermont’s backroads in search of the perfect maple swirls of a soft serve creemee. Kick back beneath the stars on the Kenyan savannah as you enjoy a lantern-lit barbecue served to the distant call of lions. Feast on fried seafood and paella at an old-school beach shack overlooking the aquamarine waters of Catalonia’s Costa Brava. If you’re ever in doubt about where to eat in the coming months, don’t just look down the block. Dine out — way out — this summer. — Nick Mancall-Bitel
